The
days of matchy-matchy bikinis are over. The latest swimwear trend is
nothing short of throwing your swimsuits in the air and letting the
gravity decide which tops and bottoms fall together. That speckled
rainbow halter bikini top? Now you can wear it with some lime green
bikini bottoms. And those hot pink bottoms? Slip them on with a bright
tangerine bandeau.Dorothy Kozina, co-owner of Offshores Swim &
Sunwear, says mixing and matching swimwear makes a statement. And visual
interest aside, the pairing options mean more fashionable beach outfits
plus a lighter suitcase.Cheap Hot Pink One Piece Monokini on sale"People are looking for variety, something they don't have to pack a lot of," Kozina says.Cheap Ruffled Edges Fashion Beach Dress on sale "If you've got a good patterned suit and a good solid suit, then all of a sudden you have four suits.Cheap Leopard Beach Cover-up on sale"
Kozina
says many of her brands today are making swimsuits using a specific
palette of colours. She's seen the trend for a few years, sexy army medic nurse starting with the ability to sell tops separately from the bottom to allow for more sizing options.sexy nurse on duty costumeNow
Offshores, a locally owned business in two locations downtown at 10150
Jasper Ave. and on Whyte at 10552 82 Ave, carries a number of brands —
such as Vitamin A — that sell a variety of patterned and solid bikinis
using certain hues to make mixing and matching easier.Other brands, such
as Maaji, even offer reversible suits for more sand and sun
options."People are starting to recognize swimwear as not just 'I'm
going into the pool and I'm athletically swimming.' It's really picked
up as a fashion sense of its own, so you're finding that people are no
longer going to the beach or the pool just to try to hide themselves.
"They're
actually trying to recognize that it is a complete fashion sense and
are completely accessorizing it down to the earrings and jewelry,
sunglasses and footwear."The possibilities are endless. You can wear two
different patterned pieces, a pattern and a solid, or colour block with
two solids. Kozina says patterns are bigger than colour blocking this
season, with more funky tops being sold than bottoms. Often people are
conscious about their bottom half, so when they find ones that fit well,
they stick with them and add a couple of extra tops. However, she says
the trend doesn't need to be overly wild or wacky. If you're more
conservative yet still want to have a bit of fun, you can wear a darker
bottom and punch it up with a bright watermelon top.
